Checking in...

I can't remember if I've ever used this photo for a blog post before. I've had it as my profile picture all over the place for a long time so I think it's almost time to go; a new beginning and such. My February resolutions will stand (including #3!), I'm just postponing until March, or maybe April. Seeya then!

>> Typically, this photo was taken during my last trip to New York, which was too long ago. Perhaps I need to go back to get a new one?

Resolutions

My first blog post from the iPhone! Can't believe it took me so long, although typing with one finger is not ideal... might be a short one.

As per my latest tweet, here come some resolutions for the year beginning Monday 1st February 2010. Yes, you heard me, February. That's just how I roll.

1 ~ I will go to Bikram yoga once a week.

2 ~ I will start AND finish a new creative project each month.

3 ~ I will keep blogging.

4 ~ I will spend time away from the computer, and resisting the urge to use the Internet on my phone (tonight doesn't count!).

5 ~ I will take more photos.

6 ~ I will get more sleep.

7 ~ I will try going vegan for a month.

8 ~ I will become a member of my local library.

9 ~ I will start a herb garden.

10 ~ I will choose to be happy most of the time, even when it's tricky.

I think these are very achievable. Wish me luck!

>> I'm putting the iPhone down now.

Looking back

I'm slowly getting back into some kind of routine, but life is busy at the moment! To recap 2009, these are my favourite posts of each month from my blog (no explanations, you can just peruse them if you feel like it):

January ~ Giving my powerboard a plug
February ~ Laneway Festival
March ~ I heart NY
April ~ The Greenstore
May ~ The best vegan pumpkin muffins
June ~ Learning to sew on a button
July ~ All you need is love
August ~ Le béret bleu
September ~ Green salad
October ~ Country weekend
November ~ I took a blogging hiatus!
December ~ Niagara print

...and since it's the start of a new year, I can't help throwing in a plug for Maxihuge Calendars! You can buy them here ;)

>> The photo is me in my pretty new dress, thanks to some very generous Christmas vouchers. Lucky me!

Photo booth fun

My little Macbook is so clever - it has a built in camera that's opened me up to the world of Skype video chatting to friends all over the globe! It also has a nifty little program called Photo Booth, where you can either take regular photos or use a preset effect like this one, which has turned my kitchen into a comic! I'm easily amused.

It's not goodbye, it's see you later!

One post a month is all I've been managing, so I think it's time I took an official hiatus. I'm hoping to come back at some stage with a clearer idea of what I want this blog to be about.

In the meantime, I'll be:
~ learning French (albeit slowly)
~ getting healthier with regular dance, yoga and bike riding
~ starting a new job
~ spending time in the real world, you know, away from the computer

I'm still very much followable on twitter (if you're into that), and have a tumblr page full of pretty things (I think of it like an online inspiration board). Other people are tumblr-ing too - like Little Lost Love, and Friend For Keeps!

Il n'est pas au revoir, il est à plus tard...

Bye for now xx

Too busy for words

I seem to be letting the blog lapse these days - a week between posts! Maybe that will all change in the winter? This week I was tagged by lina so here goes...

The rules are:
1. Respond and rework. Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question you dislike with a question of your own invention; add a question of your own.
2. Tag eight other un-tagged people.

What is your current obsession? Finding new vegetarian recipes to make at home.
What are you wearing right now? Black shorts, green tee... very plain.
Do you nap a lot? Yes, but not at much as I'd like to!
Who was the last person you hugged? A boy whose name starts with S.
If you were a tree, what tree would you be? A pine tree so I could smell like Christmas! Strange question.
What’s for dinner? I just tweeted about it so you'll have to look there.
What was the last thing you bought? Bed sheets yesterday (not counting the cocktails last night).
What are you listening to right now? Charge Group because a friend just gave me the CD.
What is your favourite weather? Summer for the beach, Autumn for the leaves, Winter for the knitting and Spring for the flowers. Yep, pretty much all of it.
What’s on your beside table? A few books, paper, a pen, frankie magazine.
Say something to the person/s who tagged you. Hello Lina! Your blog is very sweet :)
If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? Easy: New York City.
Where are you typing from right now? The desk in my kitchen.
A book you're currently reading? Just started "Holy Cow!" by Sarah MacDonald (on loan from a friend).
What would you like to have in your hands right now? One of the banana choc-chip muffins I made yesterday. They're actually only an arms length away but saving it for the couch with a cup of tea.
What is your favourite tea flavour? Lady Grey.
What would you like to get rid of? My worst case scenario tendencies and the ominous sense of doom for the world. Sometimes it's better to just be happy with 'now'. Sorry, too heavy?
If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go? I'm actually looking forward to relaxing in my living room!
What did you want to become as a child? I kept changing my mind, and still haven't decided for sure...

I'm breaking 'the rules' and won't tag anyone this time but feel free to tag yourself.

Tags and awards!

I've been lucky this week, and here are a few reasons why:
~ getting a proximidade award from littlechrissy (actually for the second time!)
~ winning a beautiful photo print on love me, love me not
~ tagged by the lovely lina

Four Things
a: four places that i go to over and over: vegie bar, soulfood cafe, Moroccan soup bar & soulmama
b: four people who email me regularly: an American friend living in Japan, a German friend who I must visit one day, Martha Stewart's daily organising tips (yes, nerdy), and blog comments (thank you!)
c: four favourite smells: coffee, coconut flavoured anything, fresh coriander and pine trees
d: four places i would rather be right now: i'm pretty happy where i am! ...but there's always New York City.
e: four people i tag: cheating again - anyone who wants to do this, consider yourself tagged!

>> I've also donated as much as I could to the Red Cross for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009, and forwarded some recipes to Handmade Help. Every little bit counts.

Hello two thousand and nine!

Happy New Year everyone! I'm looking forward to 2009, and sticking to my new year's resolutions this time. I finished crocheting the blue beret but not 100% happy with it so have started creating version 2.0 (if it works out I'll post the pattern). I'm also wearing my gorgeous new cardigan and a favourite necklace today. So far, this year is grand!

New Year's Resolutions

I've been away for a few days, enjoying the country air and coastal waters... now I'm home and refreshed, it seems like a good time to share my new year's resolutions for 2009:
~ do at least half an hour of yoga every day
~ enrol in proper sewing classes (also, finish the green velvet cushions)
~ practice the acoustic guitar
~ have a garage sale or market stall
~ ride my bike at every opportunity
~ remember most of the time to just be happy

A short break

I've taken a few days off blogging, and may take a few more... I wish I could say I was spending time in the fresh country air, but unfortunately this photo was taken over a year ago. Alas, it's just the general feeling that I'm too busy with everything all at once and something had to give. Hopefully not for long!

>> Worst timing ever since it's still Blogtoberfest! But it looks like there are plenty of others out there who have it covered. Back soon.

An extraction

I unexpectedly had a wisdom tooth out today (not the actual reason I went to the dentist), so I'm destined for soup and DVDs tonight. Might try to finish my mini crochet project too (So on my desk = on my couch... again).

A reflection

It's been a while since I picked up my guitar. I often feel discouraged since so many people I know are far more advanced with their musical talent! The harmonica was harder than it looked, so I'm taking a step back to something I've actually done before. By summer I intend to be all of the following:
~ a guitar player
~ a harmonica player
~ a headscarf wearer
~ a photographer
~ a knitter
~ a sewer
~ a (better) blogger

...well, I'm on my way.
