Lately I've been making berets left, right and centre in my quest for a fail-safe crocheted beret pattern. Last night, however, I stumbled across this Popknits pattern for a Fair Isle Beret and instantly fell in love. It was motivation enough to start teaching myself how to knit in fair isle, and here are the results! No-one told me about reading the first line of the pattern chart forwards, and the next line backwards... but apart from that I figured out how to add in colours and create pretty pictures. Feeling very proud.

Learning fair isle knitting

It was motivation enough to start teaching myself how to knit in fair isle, and here are the results! Wow it looks amazing so far. I'm always impressed by changing colours. I have enough trouble knitting with only one!
WOW!!! That is great. It looks like you have been doing fair isle your whole life. I am a new knitter and am about to start my third project. Fair Isle is a ways down the road for me, but I look forward to it.
Thanks! It wasn't easy but makes more sense as you start to actually try and knit the extra colours in. I think I need a proper lesson before I embark on any large fair isle projects, though...
