Ruin

The latest Cat Power song came out recently, can't wait to hear the rest of the album. I think Chan Marshall is my favourite lady in the world.

Coachella

Any time I've had at home this weekend I've spent watching the live Coachella webcast. It's like being there but with:
  • a better view
  • the ability to hop between stages (and back) within seconds
  • cleaner clothes (often pyjamas)
  • no need for a plane ticket
...I'd still rather be there, but it's a pretty rad alternative. Some highlight screenshots below.

Now please excuse me, Radiohead are about to be rebroadcast.

"My Country" by tUnE-yArDs

I've gotta say, the music videos by tUnE-yArDs have all been pretty solid (you've seen the one for "Bizness", right?), but this one gets the cuteness award.

ps. The tip off for this came from Pitchfork, which any avid music fan would have in their top five bookmarks already, I know.

Oblivion

New music crush: Grimes. How have I not heard of her before?! Love.

D.A.N.C.E

That's an Instagram photo from a few months back. I can't remember where I was but they played that Yeah Yeah Yeahs song with "dance dance dance til you're dead" in the lyrics, and my friend thought it was appropriate to write on my arm with a sharpie. Maybe I should get the tattoo?!

Anyway, I was out dancing last night and the DJ had some kind of 90s brit-pop slash indie hipster rock thing going on. We loved it!

Over breakfast this morning, I made a list of some of the songs that were played then turned it into a YouTube playlist, so now you can dance around your bedroom and/or next house party:

And the list:
  • The Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You
  • Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I Love You Less and Less
  • Muse - Time Is Running Out
  • Crystal Castles - Not In Love (feat Robert Smith)
  • Pulp - Common People
  • Two Door Cinema Club - Undercover Martyn
  • Kasabian - Fire
  • The Cure - Close To Me
  • The Smiths - This Charming Man
  • The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
  • Cloud Control - There's Nothing In The Water We Can't Fight
  • Modest Mouse - Float On
  • Phoenix - 1901
  • The Knife - Heartbeats
  • The Strokes - Reptilia
  • Bruce Springsteen - Dancing In The Dark
  • Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk
  • The Killers - Somebody Told Me
  • The Kooks - Naive

The Twenty-First Meredith Music Festival

Graveyard Train get the "The Boot"

As you might have noticed, I'm a music festival junkie (I've been to a fair few over the years!) - something about getting out of town, being in a crowd of people and listening to the bands you love, it's just brilliant. Anyway, this weekend marked the 21st birthday of the Meredith Music Festival so I thought I'd share one of my photos. It's a tiny snippet of a truly magical weekend, a phenomenon called "The Boot" whereby the audience raises one shoe in the air as a sign of appreciation for the band... immediately after this photo was taken my shoe was in the air too!

I Was Young

I've been yearning for new music recently, Shazam-ing songs left, right and centre, including this gem by Gossling. Incidentally, she's playing at the Northcote Social Club next Friday, with Jen Cloher too. Hmmm...

Guilty pleasure

I'll admit it, I'm excited to hear new Florence & The Machine.

iTunes Genius Mixes

I am constantly amazed by modern technology - most things created by Google, the iPhone, planes, even wireless internet! How does data get sent through the air? I'll never get my head around that one.

Anyway, my latest discovery are the new Genius playlists in iTunes. Somehow it decides what songs will work together, and it's usually pretty right! It's like having your own personal radio station. JesskaFM.

What: iTunes Cards (on sale)
From: Apple
Where: Myer (til 11 Dec) and Big W (til 9 Dec)
Cost: 2x $20 iTunes Cards for $30 (Myer), or $45 iTunes Cards for $36 (Big W)

St Kilda Festival

I braved the St Kilda Festival today to see a friend's band play in the Palais Theatre foyer, and on the way came across this little band playing on a roundabout. Cute, huh?

Laneway Festival

At St Jerome's Laneway Festival today I saw:
~ Tame Impala
~ Beaches
~ Port O'Brien
~ No Age
~ Pikelet
~ Holly Throsby (pictured above)
~ Augie March
~ The Hold Steady

Highlights: being happily surprised by No Age, The Hold Steady whole set, the free Library Stage, and Rue Bebelons unchanged drink prices.

Lowlights: Lack of water, lack of shade, oversold tickets, and frustrating festival layout with separated stage areas.

Mojitos in the sun

Pardon my blogging absence - the summer sunshine has kept me away! I've been to the Australian Open, The Mad Feeling's final show at the East Brunswick Club, the Queen Victoria Market, and Fitzroy Pool... just to name a few. Today is perfect mojito weather, which I make with:
~ plenty of ice
~ ginger beer
~ fresh mint
~ a quarter lime (squeezed & dropped in)
~ vodka

Blend to taste, then enjoy!

A night with Fleet Foxes

I saw this band tonight and they were amazing.

Meredith Music Festival

Here is my excuse for a lack of posts this week - I was at the muddy banks of the Meredith Music Festival! I spent Thursday night gathering supplies like gumboots ($26 very well spent), and packing up my festival camping kit (tent, camping chairs, tarp and eskii) then hit the road on Friday to what would end up the wettest festival ever. Typical. We still had lots of fun! Today... I clean.

Bon Iver is breaking my heart

The best thing about this YouTube clip is that it has no video, so you can just listen to the song and click away in other tabs/windows at the same time ;) It's so pretty, you might like it too.

>> The truth is, I couldn't think of another way to share the song (there's no film clip yet) - it's "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver.

Big jumps

I've been playing my guitar a lot more recently... hoping to become some sort of folky-songstress. In the meantime, I'll listen to girls like Emiliana Torrini, Jolie Holland and Leslie Feist, and sigh in awe. I know it's lazy to post a YouTube clip instead of a photo, but this is so cute!

A Blogtoberfest fave Friday!

One of my favourite songs is "The Con" by Canadian duo Tegan & Sara (from their most recent album). I've probably listened to it at least 87 times.

>> Thanks to Blog Portion for the theme, and Big Cat's Emporium for Blogtoberfest!

A groupie

Off to see The Mad Feeling at Idgaff tonight! Happy Friday!
