Just a minute... in June

Scraping in at the end of the month! Here's what's been occupying my time:

Reading... less than I should. Need to find a good book to carry me through the cold weather.

Watching... free DVDs thanks to a Quickflix trial. We've had The Wackness, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Science of Sleep and Broken Flowers - all good!

Listening... to Michael Jackson and Jackson Five songs. Also discovering "Ben" was written about his pet rat.

Eating... winter warmers like soup, curry, stir-fry and porridge. Not all at once.

Knitting... slippers, slippers and more slippers.

Learning... a language! At least that's what I hope to do soon. Either pickup my French again, or start Spanish. German is another contender.

>> I'm wondering if this blog is on wind down, or if it's just a "slow phase". Haven't decided yet.

Just a minute... in May

These are my favourite posts because they force me to recap what I've been doing over the past month, and I'm pretty sure that's good for my brain! Thanks, as always, to August Street for the 'Just a Minute' theme. Here goes:

Reading... vegetarian cooking books like the Moosewood Cookbook, trying out new dishes like Baba Ganouj (eggplant dip).

Watching... NBA playoffs! Blame it on my boyfriend.

Listening... to songs like "Buttons" by Sia, and "Dance Anthem of the 80s" by Regina Spektor and planning to buy both of their new albums very soon.

Eating... lots of vegan muffins (as you may have noticed)

Knitting... all the same projects I was working on in April, but getting closer to finishing the slippers, mittens and granny square blanket - stay tuned!

Learning... how important it is to get enough sleep, eat well, do exercise, and take time off work every now and then. It sounds so simple when you put it in one sentence, huh?

Just a minute... in April

Here's my April round up, as inspired by August Street:

Reading... the news online every day, when I really shouldn't. There's a lot of hype about this swine flu at the moment, not sure whether to be scared or not.

Watching... digital television now we have a set top box! (the late night poker is a favourite)

Listening... to lots of new music. On the list to buy is Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silversun Pickups, and Dark was the Night (a compilation).

Eating... soup, like the Spicy Moroccan Tomato & Chickpea recipe in my Vegetarian Bible. Cheap and delicious!

Knitting... scarves, slippers, mittens, and crocheting a giant granny square blanket. Phew.

Learning... to work for myself! I'm now officially a sole trader and loving it.

Just a minute... in March

Late again! I need some sort of time-doubling machine at the moment (twice as much would almost be enough, right?). Looking back on the month that was March 2009, I've been:

Reading...
tweets, including Ashton & Demi's! Can't help myself. Trying to limit the number I'm "following" though, so it doesn't get out of control like my Google Reader did. Ugh.

Watching... Madmen. It's SO good. I'd be quite happy as a 50s housewife, thank you.

Listening... to all sorts of things, especially The Flaming Lips since I have tickets to see them soon! If only I was talking about All Tomorrow's Parties, the New York lineup is amazing... *sigh*

Eating... lots of Japanese food like tofu don and vegetarian gyoza.

Knitting... is slowly creeping back now the weather's cooling down, although today would make you think otherwise! Expect more stitch n' bitch posts very soon.

Learning... that we can only do the best we can with the time and resources we have. Remembering that can be the hardest part.

Just a minute... in February

I thought about backdating this post so it actually 'happened' in February... sneaky short month! Anyway, it's my just a minute roundup:

Reading... the Lazy Girl's Guide to a Fabulous Body (on a bit of a health kick).

Watching... Buffy, season 3 - it's intense! And very 90s.

Listening... to the album "Rockferry" by Welsh pop-soul singer Duffy.

Eating... vegetarian food, as usual. Thinking about going vegan soon.

Crocheting... the green beret, but it's nearly done.

Learning... the wonders of new technology like Twitter, and the iPhone (I don't have one yet but soon!). I'm very much on Team Apple these days.

Just a minute... in January

Almost forgot again! These months fly by too quickly... Anyway, here is my just a minute round up for January:

Reading... issue #27 of frankie magazine. I read it cover to cover every time.

Watching... the Australian Open! It always makes me want to take up tennis again.

Listening... to Bon Iver's album "For Emma, Forever Ago" and loving it so much the vinyl version is now on order from Insound.

Eating... coriander from the garden in almost every meal, but not sure how it's going to survive through the heatwave predicted in Melbourne this week!

Sewing... has stalled, as has the knitting and crochet. No doubt will be back with a vengeance when the weather cools down.

Learning... that it's hard to start new habits - like exercise, getting up early and avoiding sweet things - but very satisfying when you actually do it. Having said that, I think I need icecream!

Just a minute... in December

Despite falling down on the every day blogging, I'm proud to have kept up with a monthly "just a minute" post since July. It's a great way to keep tabs on your progress with different things, or just to see what you've been doing at various points throughout the year. Thanks Jenaveve of August Street! So what's been happening with me?

Reading... a book by Alain de Botton called The Consolations of Philosophy. I'm not usually into heavy reading but it's actually really interesting and not too hard to follow, I'm hooked!

Watching... a TV show recommended by a friend called Damages. It's really a long winded murder mystery, but I'm up to the fourth episode and looking forward to the next one.

Listening... to the new Emiliana Torrini album (Me & Armini). I recently posted the YouTube clip for the first single Big Jumps, it's so cute!

Eating... lots. Must be all this cold rainy weather. Vietnamese noodle soup with tofu and vegies is becoming a staple.

Sewing... is so much easier now I know how to use my overlocker! I'm going to put a deadline on my green velvet cushions to be completed by December 31st.

Learning... that time is more valuable than money.

Just a minute... in November

Only 8 posts before this one in the month of November, so I thought it was a good time for August Street's "just a minute" round up.

Reading... all the blogs in my reader list, more than I used to (or at least I've added more without removing any). I like paying attention to what people share, and being inspired. By the way, there's a helpful post on Meet Me at Mikes about blog reading etc.

Watching... season two of Buffy, and almost up to the next one! I was never a "Buffy" person but I now understand what all the fuss was about.

Listening... to Perth band Tame Impala. They're just as good live as on their EP. Worth a spin.

Eating... mostly fresh market food, to go with my running, swimming, bike riding, dancing and yoga. Hoping this time it'll all stick and I'll become one of those fit & healthy people I never understood before. Or maybe not.

Sewing... plans are on hiatus. The first green cushion took me so long, it's put me off doing the other three! I really should get back to it, and embark on an easier first project next time.

Learning... to be more proactive, and doing the things that have been on my list foreverrr. Still a lot more I could/should be doing, but I'm proud of myself anyway.

Just a minute... in October

August Street had the idea to give a summary of your doings once a month, and called it just a minute. Given that tomorrow marks the end of October, I'm just in time!

Reading... lots of back issues of Golden Hands. Self described as a "knitting, dressmaking & needlecraft guide"(dated 1962). Photos coming soon, it's vintage gold!

Watching... season one of Buffy! I decided it was finally time so I've embarked on the challenge to watch the whole series, start to finish.

Listening... to the new Jolie Holland album, The Living and The Dead. And Cat Power.

Eating... more fruit and salads, and getting fresh food from the market on Sunday. Of course, there are also plenty of muffins, coffee and dark chocolate being consumed in between.

Sewing... up green velvet cushions for my kitchen chairs. As a first real sewing project I don't have unrealistic expectations but I hope they're usable!

Learning... how to crochet the edges for my granny squares and join them together. Haven't quite mastered it yet but YouTube has been an invaluable resource.

Just a minute... in September

'Just a minute' theme inspired by August Street. So here's what I've been doing for the past month...

Reading... well, I actually just finished The Celestine Prophecy, which touched on ideas about life and how to make the most of it. Interesting read.

Watching... season two of Dexter is even better than season one! Still can't get enough.

Listening... to my boyfriend practice guitar in the living room right now, which is not entirely unusual.

Eating... lots of nice food, both homemade and eating out. A few recent discoveries are Balas Food Source (Brunswick St, Fitzroy) and Soulfood Cafe (Smith St, Collingwood).

Knitting... has basically stopped for the moment while I'm drafting up crochet and sewing projects, but it will make a comeback soon! Especially when I can get some nicer wool.

Learning... how to be healthier, and that it actually requires a fair amount of effort and dedication that I'm yet to master! Slowly getting there.

Just a minute... in August

Here is round #2 of the 'Just a minute...' roundup, thanks to August Street. Basically it's my past few weeks in a nutshell.

Reading... "The Mole People: Life in the Tunnels Beneath New York City" by Jennifer Toth. It's about the thousands of homeless people who have setup communities in disused subway tunnels, up to eighteen floors below ground.

Watching... a lot of DVDs at the moment, but highlight by far has been The Dark Knight, which I saw at IMAX last week.

Listening... to Black Mountain's album "In The Future". Particularly good winter music, although not necessarily for everyone.

Eating... mainly mushy foods, like soup and risotto. My boyfriend just had his wisdom teeth out a few days ago and is desperately craving toast, poor thing. Bought "Vegan with a Vengeance" (a recipe book, by Isa Chandra Moskowitz) today too, so will be trying out some of those soon.

Knitting... less than last month. Have moved on to crochet, especially granny squares!

Learning... a bit more about web stuff, like editing websites and using Google analytics. I'm a nerd.

Just a minute... in July

I've joined a meme (thanks to August Street), so you'll be seeing a post like this once a month. I figured the middle of a month is as good a time as any to begin! Feel free to join in here.

Reading... The latest Frankie magazine. I tend to read it over & over until the next one comes out, finding an interesting new snippet or photo each time.

Watching... Dexter (Sunday nights on Channel 10). Very clever cop show - I'm hooked.

Listening... The new Death Cab For Cutie album is brilliant. My favourite song was "I will possess your heart", but others are rapidly growing on me as I replay.

Eating... Churros (spanish donuts) with the dark chocolate sauce. Seriously amazing.

Knitting... Still going on the brown moss stitch scarf, despite working on it daily. It's almost as tall as me now, but I'm keen to finish the ball of wool (so close!).

Learning... How to play harmonica. I bought a cheap one for practice, and started watching YouTube videos for instructions. Turns out it's actually quite tricky.
